He can only begin to thank Edwards for all his favors. He wishes he had the letters of the Archbishop which Edwards desires. He cheerfully sends the first crozier presented to him. His successor Bishop Patrick Manogue, Sacramento City including O'Connell's former diocese of Grass Valley can furnish him with particulars of his missionary career. P.S. He cites an incident about the Indians of the mission of Santa Ines converted by the Spanish Missioners to show that the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception is no innovation.
