Connor M.F. Sexton of Cathedral, Baltimore, Maryland, to James F. Edwards, Notre Dame, Indiana, 1887 January 27
Scope and Contents
The mitre he sent belonged to Bishop James Roosevelt Baily Bayley. He now sends one that belonged to Bishop Martin John Spaulding Spalding. In answer to Edward's questions, he would say that the Cardinal needs an ordinary mitre for general use. Parties from Philadelphia have written the Cardinal for relics for a Historical cabinet. Edwards can judge Connor's answer. Connor thinks the west needs building up. Philadelphia has had enough. The Cardinal would prize the mitres Edwards mentions very highly; he is one of those appreciative natures.
