Mission Records - Establishment of Missions [was 25/17], n.d.

 File — Box: CHJC 33
Identifier: CHJC 33/04

Scope and Contents

This ledger documenting the establishment of the convents was begun circa 1889 but includes information on all the American Province missions established since 1868 arranged chronologically by date of foundation. Under a title including the location and diocese of the convent are columns giving the date of the foundation, name of the founder (e.g., the name of the pastor requesting sisters), the principal activities of the convent, the number of "schools" (possibly classrooms), the number of school sisters at the convent, the stipendiary arrangements, who's in charge of the mission (e.g., "the priest of the parish and the principal of the school"), and remarks. The remarks are periodically updated with changes in the financial arrangements of the mission and the number of sisters stationed in the convent. The book was updated until c. 1947. There is an index which begins at the front of the book and continues on page 230. The book is written entirely in German.
