General

Letter. Expresses hope that the new mission on Grand River, which he plans to establish will be a success. Starting out on a mission tour, he blessed a new church at Middle Village. Then went to the mission near present Manistique where he found everything in order. From there he went to Little Detroit Island and blessed a church and cemetery. He continued to Beaver Island where he learned that the pagans had prevented the Catholic Idians from building a church, consequently the latter were planning to move to Arbre Croche. On returning to Arbre Croche he found the Redemptorists ready to take over the mission. Father Baraga gives a brief description of his missions and follows with comments on the customs and habits of the Indians. GXE. DALY.
