Essay. The University of Notre Dame Press has agreed to publish a new edition of his book GERMAN CATHOLICS AND HITLER'S WARS. This book is no less important today than it was then. While the focus then was on the failure of the German bishops to recognize the injustice of the Nazi war effort, today the focus is on American Catholics and Bishops who stood quiet during the reign of Hitler's Third Reich. We should look at ourselves before we criticize the actions of others.
