General

Document. Gordon writes that Dorothy opposed participation in the CO program at the onset because she considered it a form of cooperation with the war and conscription. Peace like other issues engaged the efforts of the Movement--"its total and never wavering identification with the poor, the aged, the sick, and the outcast; its insistent demands for social justice for the worker and an end to all forms of race prejudice and discrimination. . . Most disheartening of all to its adherents is the obvious fact that, forty years after its founding, the Worker is still unsuccessful in its efforts to unleash the full revolutionary force of Christianity. . . There is no way to foretell how this dilemma will be resolved or whether the Worker will continue to benefit. "
