Correspondence. Gordon says that Poupard's clarification of the Holy Father's reference to "pacifism" was most welcome and encouraging. Although Gordon does not deny that there are some pacificts who are motivated by the selfishness and cowardice the Holy Father deplores, there is no basis to applying this to the others.
