The play is about Pius XII, and Hochhuth believes that, contrary to popular opinion, this man should not be considered a saint. He believes that although the play raised some important issues, it does not seem to treat them in a satisfactory manner. He says that he would not like to see it on the stage, but he does not think he has the right to stop it.
