The committee on Organization will nominate Edwards as one of the three secretaries of the Columbian Catholic Congress which is to convene Sept. 4. The secretaries are named in compliment to Georgetown, Notre Dame, and Christian Brothers' College St. Louis. He was pleased with the selection of General William Rosecrans for the Laetare Medal. Indeed he had anticipated the decision. He rejoices in the assurance of the continued and increasing prosperity of Notre Dame. Edwards is one of his oldest and truest friends. Miss Isabel Shea writes that she is trying to sell the copyright and plates of the History of the Catholic Church in the United States and that the only offer she had was $300 from St. Louis. She ought to realize at least $1000 for it. He suggests that Notre Dame ought to take it.

Edwards' good wishes for the New Year came in good season. How steadily the circle of friends is narrowing! Edwards is now to him one of the "ancients" of Notre Dame University. Edwards recalls for him all its traditions and associations. He was glad to hear from Archbishop John Ireland the surprise and interest with which he examined Edwards' collection of manuscripts. :: XI-2-b A.L.S. 1p.

Onahan saw by the papers that Edwards was in New York, so he was in no urgency to acknpwledge Father Corby's invitation to the celebration of Father Edward F. Sorin's C.S.C. Golden Jubilee on August 15. It will be an honor to attend. Onahan leaves for Nebraska this week to visit their colony of the Irish catholic Colonization Association. Sorin will remain a towering character in the history of the American Church.
