The photographs focus on everyday life, often focusing the poverty that he witnessed in the nation in the years after the Civil War. In addition to these images of day-to-day life, the scrapbook also includes several images related to avant-garde theater in Soviet Russia, most notably the Meyerhold Theater in Moscow.
