This collection consists of a scrapbook and loose material collected by figure skater Ernest Berry documenting his amateur ice skating career. Materials include photographs of Berry and other skaters, ephemera—like programs, tickets, participant information, and other material—about ice skating competitions and events, primarily in California and the Midwest, clippings, and some personal material about Berry.

Biographical / Historical

Ernest Alexander Berry (1901-1963) was a champion amateur figure skater. He was born in Ontario, Canada, and immigrated to Michigan in the early twentieth century. He was the Senior Men's Michigan state figure skating champion for several years until he moved to Los Angeles in the 1930s. Skating for the Los Angeles Figure Skating Club, Berry won several California state Men's Senior figure skating titles, and he was also a successful pairs figure skater. Berry's son Roger Berry was also an accomplished figure skater and ice dancer, representing the United States at the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympics in the demonstration sport of ice dancing.
