Biographical / Historical

The Chicago College Football All-Star Charity game was founded in 1934 by the Chicago Tribune and sportswriter Arch Ward. The game was contested every season between a group of recently graduated college football All-Stars and the previous season’s championship team of the professional National Football League. The 1974 game was not held due to a strike by NFL Players. The game was discontinued after 1976 due to the NFL’s concerns about injuries to recently drafted players, waning fan interest, and increasingly uncompetitive games.
