Rusudana Nikolaevna Nikoladze Illustrated Memoir, circa 1926, 1960s
Scope and Contents
The notebook is entitled "Notebook N. 5.: 1906-1912 'Two Nicholases"" (Tetrad N. 5.: 1906-1912 'Dva Nikolaia'). It is written in retrospect with no dated entries and is a prequel to the memoir entitled "Notebook N. 6. 'Days of our Life' . . . Continuation 1907-08." Together these two notebooks have three parts, with notebook 5 containing the first and a portion of the second part, while Notebook 6 contains the remainder of the second and the entire third part. The parts are entitled "At the sea" (I u moria), "In the north" (II Na severe), and "Course year" (III IV kurs). It appears that Notebook 5 was written by RNN in Georgia in the 1920s. Annotations to the text appear to have been made by RNN in the 1960s (see p. 12). The text is written in Russian. Between her third and fourth academic years at the Women's Pedagogical Institute in St. Petersburg, Rusudana spent the summer of 1906 in Poti (Georgia) with her father Nikolai Nikoladze. She describes his activities as the city mayor of Poti during the reconstruction of its port. The memoir also focuses on RNN's student life in St. Petersburg.
