Foote records locations reached, weather, financial transactions, daily pastimes, and significant events in his detachment such as deaths and desertions. Includes two small hand-drawn maps of routes in Nevada, along with Foote's accounts of a cholera outbreak in Nicaragua that claimed the lives of several of his fellow soldiers (2-5 January 1867), a robbery carried out by some members of his detachment near Placerville, California (17 July 1867), and his arrival at Sitka (9 October 1867).
