Scope and Contents

Map of the United States overlaid on a football field in a stadium. The map depicts 238 college football teams placed geographically and represented by pennants. Text on the field also indicates bowl game results and conference champions. The right border of the map includes small sections about Notre Dame, the national championship team; Glenn Davis, of Army, the player of the year; the Princeton Tigers nickname; the Columbia Lions nickname; the Denny Chimes at the University of Alabama; Charlie Trippi, "reputed to be the highest paid player in professional football"; and smaller map depicting the professional teams of the NFL and the AAFC. The bottom border of the map includes a small section about Chief Illiniwek, the University of Illinois mascot; and a map key listing all 238 college football teams with their locations and nicknames. The map also includes inlaid sections about the 1946 UPI All-American football team; the "origins of famous plays"; "what goes on in the huddle"; NFL and AAFC all-professional teams; and the dimensions of a football field. The reverse of the map includes 1947 schedules for college and professional football teams. This poster was distributed by Robertson Bros. department store.
