VII. John Bennet Shaw Scrapbook

 Series

Scope and Contents

A diverse collection of materials by or related to Chesterton, including manuscripts, published works, photographs, and flyers. Works by G.K. Chesterton include some correspondence, galleys of several essays ("The Greek Mask," "Marriage and the Modern Mind," and "The True Sin of Bolshevism"), and copies of poems that Chesterton composed for Father John O'Connor (the prototype for Father Brown’s character). Also of interest is a prospectus and letter to investors for G.K.’s Weekly Limited. The series also contains a letter by Cecil Chesterton and several artifacts related to Frances Chesterton, including a Christmas poem and flyers for her plays, “Faith and Fable” and “Piers Plowman's Pilgrimage.” Other materials include a number of posthumous tributes to Chesterton, including by Eileen Duggan and Lord Elton, a transcription of an episode of Catholic Hour focusing on Chesterton, several photographs of Chesterton, and collection cards from the Bayer Collection of Chestertoniana.
