A lab notebook (1950-1953); a reprint of his "On the Hydrodynamical Theory of the Viscosity of Suspensions" from the Fith Intenational Congress of Applied Mechanics, 1938; and measuring tools used in conducting polymer physics experiments at Notre Dame, including calipers, tachometers, dial test indicators, a torque wrench, and miscellaneous accessories (1940s-1950s).

Background

Starting in 1937, Eugene Guth served as Research Professor of Physics and director of the High Polymer Physics Laboratory at the University of Notre Dame. Before he came to America, Dr Guth received his doctorate in 1928 at the University of Vienna and then lectured there on theoretical physics. He also did research at the Institute of Technology in Zurich and at the University of Leipzig. He published papers on quantum theory, wave mechanics of nuclei, and the physics of high molecular substances. He became known as an authority on the development of cellulose products and in his later career concentrated on the study of the physical properties of rubber and of plastics.
