Chiefly course material for the music classes he taught, especially Introduction to Music and Introduction to the Classic Symphony: notes and notebooks, music manuscripts, essays, and letters from his career as a professor of music at Notre Dame. Also a notebook from a Literature Course taught by Frank O'Malley at Notre Dame, 1955-1956, and a spirit-duplicator booklet by Daniel H. Pedtke, "Keyboard Theory: Modulation - Transposition - Harmonization".

Background

A native of Rochester, New York, Eugene J. Leahy studied in his youth at the Eastman School of Music there. He studied at the University of Notre Dame (1943-1947) and earned A.B. and Bachelor of Music degrees there. At DePaul University (1947-1949) earned a Master of Music and taught there during his years as a doctoral student at Chicago Music College (1949-1952). After earning his Doctor of Fine Arts degree he joined the faculty at Notre Dame, where he developed the graduate program in musicology, conducted research in early liturgical music, and developed introductory music courses for undergraduates.
