Scope and Contents

This collection documents John C. Bermingham's time a student at the University of Notre Dame from 1938-1942. Of particular note are the materials related to Bermingham's job as the Senior Manager of the Notre Dame varsity football team during the 1941 season. The records relate to Bermingham's responsibilities as Manager, including organizing the traveling party for away games, managing sideline passes for home games, and other activities. The collection contains photographs, documents, correspondence, ephemera, and realia.

Biographical / Historical

John C. Bermingham, referred to in the collection also as “Jack” and “Berm," graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1942. During his senior year in 1941-1942, Bermingham worked as the Senior Manager for the Notre Dame varsity football team under coach Frank Leahy. Upon graduation, Bermingham enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a first lieutenant of an artillery group during World War II. He served a second tour of duty during the Korean War. Bermingham lived most of his life in Wharton, New Jersey. He died in 2010.
