Scope and Contents

Contains 199 photographic slides that Tim Gohmann created during his year in Innsbruck, Austria, through Notre Dame’s study abroad program. Slides depict scenes from daily life, accommodations at Pension Steinbock, and study at the University of Innsbruck; fellow Notre Dame students; points of interest during travels in Austria and surrounding countries; and arrival and departure at seaports in the United States and France. Collection also includes an item-level inventory of slides and related print materials, including pre-departure instructions; information about fees; and an informational card for the Notre Dame Hospitality Center in Rome.

Biographical / Historical

Timothy Gohmann was born on June 12, 1947, at the St. Elizabeth’s adoption home in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Melveen Ann Haynes (1928-2010) and Maurice Caenepeel (1909-1969). Charles (1909-1986) and Loretta (Scheer) Gohmann (1907-1985) adopted him in November 1947 and raised him in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where he graduated from Our Lady of Providence Catholic High School in 1965 and enrolled at the University of Notre Dame the same year. He lived in Dillon Hall as a freshman before spending his sophomore year abroad through Notre Dame’s program in Innsbruck, Austria. He spent his final two years in St. Edward’s Hall, graduating in 1969 with majors in Psychology and German.

After graduation from the University of Notre Dame, Gohmann enrolled in graduate school at the University of Virginia and earned a master’s degree (1972) and doctorate (1973) in experimental psychology. Gohmann built a career as a behavioral economist and led marketing research and brand development initiatives for multiple companies and firms, including Burke Marketing Research (Cincinnati, Ohio), the Coca-Cola Company, Ponderosa Restaurants, Wirthlin Worldwide, J.D. Power, and TNS, among others.
