U.S. Catholic Records
Scope and Content
Correspondence (approximately one linear foot) of Robert E. Burns (editor of U.S. Catholic, formerly Voice of St. Jude). Burns retired as editor in June of 1984. Editorial files, 1959-1984, including correspondence with contributors, readers, and other editors and publishers of the Catholic press. Very few, if any, of the letters could be considered personal. The correspondence is filed by year, but is not organized within each year. The files do not appear to be complete as there are few letters for some years and none for others.
The rest of the collection (forty-one linear feet) consists of Surveys (1970-ongoing) filled in by U.S. Catholic readers most of them for the Sounding Board and Feedback features in the magazine; with answers to multiple-choice question and free-form answers (i.e., paragraphs in which respondents used their own words).
