Scope and Contents

Notes used for Schmitt's book on the life and times of Bishop Simon Bruté, including two incomplete copies of Life of Bishop Bruté by Rt. Rev. James Roosevelt Bayley (Catholic Publication Society, 1876); Discourse on the Rt. Rev. Simon Gabriel Bruté by Rev. John McCaffrey (M'Clean, Duphorn and Troxel, 1839); a volume of "The Letters of Bishop Bruté," copied by Father Schmitt; notes about Bishop Bruté copied by Schmitt or clipped from Bayley. Notes are arranged in two sections: the first is arranged according to the chronological events of Bishop Bruté's life, the second is arranged alphabetically by subject. Also included here is The Colonial History of Vincennes by Judge Law; a scrapbook of clippings on Indiana Catholic history from 1891-1894; and Elizabeth Seton et les Commencements de l'Eglise Catholique aux Etats-Unis by Madame de Barberey.
