New Series: Rubric 153 (U.S. Documents), 1893-1903
Scope and Contents
In 1893, Propaganda changed the organization of its records. In the new system, officials assign a protocol number to each document and a code number (rubric) based on its content. The volume numbers that appear in the descriptions below correspond to the protocol numbers assigned by the Propaganda. [pp.85-90]

A "ponenza" is a formal proposal written by the staff of the Sacra Congregatio de Propaganda Fide which is then submitted to higher authority for decision. (See the Historical Sketch for details).
An "adlimina" visit is an obligatory visit made by a bishop to the Pope. Limina means threshold, so a visit ad limina is a visit to the threshold. A visit ad limina apostolorum means a pilgrimage to the sepulchres of St. Peter and St. Paul in Rome (to the Basilica of the Prince of the Apostles and to the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls).
A "terna" is a list of three nominees for institution into a benefice or bishopric presented to the Pope or other authority. One of the responsibilities of bishops is to make such recommendations.
