Aubrée, Father Joseph, Many, Louisiana, to Bishop Francis Xavier Leray, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1882 October 12

Aubrée had hoped that Leray would come to take some rest from the cares of the diocese of New Orleans but in reading the Propagateur he sees that Archbishop Perché's health makes it impossible. Father J.M. Ledreux is working with Zeal. Aubrée hopes to see his congregation soon grow by 2 or 3 families. They need religious books but his means of 300 piastres do not allow him to go ahead. Aubrée has contracted no debts except at the pharmacist's and 19 piastres for the "Faith of Our Fathers" and a few other books. He also owes 30 piastres to the woman who takes care of his house. Aubrée would be very grateful if Leray could aid him in settling last year's accounts and to begin the next year with a few piastres. He has to give Mass stipends to his brother who has been paralyzed for three years. Aubrée's health is not good but better than formerly; he is not at the end of his courage. :: VI-3-d A.L.S.
