Enaut's letter continues: Enaut believes that delays would be dangerous. Pellouin is sick, call it St. Vitus dance, hysteria, it makes no difference. When Enaut was in New Orleans, he declined to accept Pellouin; Leray sent him anyhow. A month ago Enaut sent Pellouin down the Ouachita River; the next morning he came back having gone no further than Logtown. Enaut would go to those missions but to leave Pellouin alone at Monroe would be unsafe. It is sad to see a young priest so terribly afflicted. In Pellouin's lucid moments he seems to have good intentions; he is not bad but he is a lazy, crazy hypochondriac.
