Coughlan, Father Michael, Loreauville, Louisiana, to Bishop Francis Xavier Leray, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1882 March 30
Item
Identifier: CANO VI-3-d
Scope and Contents
The country here is almost completely ruined by the overflow. The crops of cane, cotton, and corn are all lost. The water is higher than in 1867. Two planters here, Messrs. White and Sampson lose from 100 to 200 acres of cane each. The water of Grand Lake is about 1/3 of a mile from the bayou. Coughlan placed the presbytery at the disposal of some. The people bear their losses with great fortitude. :: VI-3-d A.L.S. 3pp. 12mo.
