If the solutions which Perché fears and which Bishop Francis Xavier Leray is instigating were solutions one could put up with them, but they would remedy nothing. A bankruptcy would leave the diocese in the same situation. They cannot understand why Leray favors it. In his letter to E. d'Aquin Leray does not approve of a payment of 8000 francs made to Boursetty in 1881. Boursetty here relates the transactions in which he has been involved in regard to the New Orleans finances and gives his advice on the solution. Boursetty leaves for Rome March 7. Perché will have heard about the Union Generale bank. All their friends, Eugène Veuillot among them, are ruined. Politics was not a stranger in the event; they wished to strangle the Catholics.
