Borias, Father Antoine, New Orleans, Louisiana, to Archbishop Napoleon Joseph Perché, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1881 March 8
Scope and Contents
Borias affirms that the honor of the priesthood and the good of souls decided him on the grave accusation which he made only after consulting his director and much prayer. Moreover, the result appears providential as the grace of God has touched the heart of this colleague who acknowledges his guilt. He reminds Perché of his desire for a country parish for reasons of health. He would be happy to cede Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, a good parish where he has paid all the church debt, to Father Celestin M. Frain, a holy priest who is dying of boredom. If Perché does not give Frain a parish, he does not have much chance of getting one from Bishop Francis Xavier Leray since he is not in the latter's good graces. Having first learned that Father M. Forges has left Breaux Bridge and does not wish to return, he believes he could do well there. He has been told there are many well-disposed Negroes there who would be good Christians if the priest occupied himself. VI-3-c - A.L.S. - French - 3pp. - 12mo. - {7}
