Hoste, Father L., New Orleans, Louisiana, to Archbishop Napoleon Joseph Perché, 1879 June 17
Scope and Contents
Father Marine last February 2 announced without Hoste's consent and against his expressed will that he would preach at the convent on the first Sunday of each month. Hoste probably should have left right then and let Marine finish the service alone, but he did not. Two weeks later he wrote to Marine, but the reply was less than satisfying. When the Mother Superior left for France, she named Marine confessor and director. Hoste knows that neither Father Gilbert Raymond nor Father Gustave A. Rouxel gave him such powers. Hoste does not seek a reply but finds consolation in thinking that, if Perché had not been absent, these things would not have taken place. :: VI-3-a A.L.S. French 3pp. 8vo.
