Mignot, Father Hyacinthe Claude, Rome, Italy, to Archbishop Napoleon Joseph Perch é, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1878 April 10
Scope and Contents
Bishop Claude Marie Dubuis, C.M., has charged Mignot with announcing to Perch é his success with Pope Leo XIII . He has obtained for coadjutor a Frenchman, Bishop Peter Dufal, C.S.C. , formerly of Bengal. The Irish have worked against Perch é and against Dubuis, but in Propaganda they are beginning to be known as a captive party. Pech é can obtain Father Joseph Marie Millet for his coadjutor, but he must call together the bishops of the province and propose the three names he has sent, placing Millet first. If the majority is with him, the nomination is certain. If they are opposed, Perch é should have them send their reasons to Rome and he should make an agreement that the Carolinas will approve, and Millet will be his coadjutor. Cardinal Alexandre Franchi, Monsignor Giovanni Battista Agnozzi, and Monsignor Petroandorsi have promised to work for the nomination. According to the order that Dubuis has just received, he and his coadjutor must leave all the necessary papers in the hands of Cardinal Giovanni Simeoni . Bishop William Henry Elder is to be named to a more important post. Mignot will tell Perch é the place in a few days. :: VI-3-a A.L.S. French 4pp. 12mo. 11
