Darby, F.O., New Iberia, Louisiana, to Archbishop John Mary Odin, C.M., New Orleans, Louisiana, 1867 December 10

Odin's unfortunate decision has ruined Darby and leaves him without any means for the education of his son, aged 15. Of four sons he is the only one left. He has a wife and two unmarried daughters, one, 10, who will also need an education. He wants to find work but business is so bad. The company for which he worked could not even pay him his salary. Could Odin not have his son entered at St. Charles at Grand Coteau or at Pass Christian? His father was one of the founders of St. Peter's Church at New Iberia. Later his mother bought the church and made a gift of it to Bishop Blanc. He wants his son instructed in his religion and to have a commercial education.
