Lawler, Brigadier General Michael K., Morganza, Louisiana, to Archbishop John Mary Odin, C.M., New Orleans, Louisiana, 1864 September 8
Scope and Contents
He encloses a letter handed him by Father Gilbert Raymond. The superior of the convent at Opelousas will get permission from Lawler to go to New Orleans and he will try to get her permission to get what is needful for herself and Community and also wine for Raymond and his reverend brethren. Odin is to give Lawler's compliments to Father Louis Deynoodt, pastor of St. Patrick's and tell him to send something to the less fortunate brethren in the ministry on the other side of the Mississippi by the Sister. Odin is also to remember Lawler to the former pastor of Vermilionville, Father E.J. Foltier, now at New Orleans; he has too much ability to have his light hid in such a bushel. Lawler must not forget his old friend of Carrolton, the chaplain, and the Sisters of the orphan asylum there. :: VI-2-h A.L.S. 3pp. 12mo.
