Langlois, Father Auguste, Barthelemy, Pointe la Hache, Louisiana, to Archbishop Anthony Blanc, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1858 August 30
Scope and Contents
Up to now Langlois has been embarrassed at funerals because the church has nothing suitable for them. The fee for burials is quite high, $100 for first class; $50 for second class, and $25 for the third. Langlois has thought it necessary to buy a black cope, a velour catafalque, some large wooden candlesticks. It has cost him $98 but he still lacks some things. In order not to be in contradiction with Article 19 of the third diocesan synod, he asks for permission to exceed $100. He has also bought a benediction cope for $45 in his own name which he asks permission to transfer to the church. His relations with the parishioners grow better day by day and the Communions multiply. VI-1-o - A.L.S. - French - 2pp. - 4to. - 2
