Scope and Contents
Desiring to have a reliable agent in Blanc's place, Landis hopes Blanc will refer him to one. He writes upon the recommendation of Father E.Q.S. Waldron of Philadelphia. Landis is engaged in the Catholic settlement of St. Mary's in Elk County, Pennsylvania. The population has now increased to some 5000 souls. They are principally an agricultural people. The coal is about to be developed by the Sunbury and Erie Railroad. Dr. Charles T. Jackson of Boston has made a geological examination of the land. The price of land is from 3? to $20 an acre.
