Andrieu explained the marks of a true vocation and decided against him. As if delivered from a great burden, Déroches replied that he was satisfied. The big reason that left no doubt about the decision is an infirmity which Déroches confided to Andrieu. Before leaving, Déroches proposed buying Monsignor Gousset's Theology.
