Legrand, Father F., Pont de Breaux, Louisiana, to Father Stephen Rousselon, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1848 November 25
Scope and Contents
Mr. St. Clair, who will bring this letter, will also bring 14 piastres which together with what Rousselon has makes 34. Legrand would like to have a green vestment, a chalice and altar cards. If they can be had for $50 or $60 Rousselon is to give them to St. Clair. By January 1 Legrand hopes to realize this sum and when Mrs. Ch valier comes down in February, she will bring the money. The Bishop's visit had very good results here. Now that the cemetery and presbytery are almost done, there remains the church. The Bishop advised a plan which although good for other places, Legrand does not think would be successful here. He will try it later. The crop is not sold; everyone complains of poverty. He will wait for a more favorable moment. :: V-5-j A.L.S. French 3pp. 4to.
