Hailandière, Bishop Celestin de la, Vincennes, Indiana, to Bishop Anthony Blanc, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1846 July 10
Scope and Contents
Hailandière this morning received Blanc's letter of June 24 about Father Michael Clarke . Clarke cannot leave without the authorization of his bishop. In the case that he has it he should notify Hailandière so that he can find a replacement. To withdraw now after what he has forced Hailandière to do for him would be something Hailandière could not countenance. Clarke has business to settle, personal debts to pay which call for his prompt return. Blanc already has so many priests of Hailandière's diocese; he expects Blanc to send Clarke back without delay. P.S. Could Blanc send 2 portraits belonging to Father Isidore Cuny and brought to Blanc by Father Priour. :: V-5-f A.L.S. French 1p. 4to.
