Brands, C.M., Father John, Galveston, Texas, to Bishop Anthony Blanc, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1846 January 17

Brands has just received Blanc's letter of the 13th. By carpentering and gardening he hurt his hand so badly he still writes with difficulty. Brands does not expect Bishop John Odin before March or April. Having now a confrere with him for some months past, Father Eudald Estany, C.M., Brands' health has improved. He has also had an American clergyman, Father James Miller , with credentials from the Bishop of Philadelphis and the Superior of Mount St. Mary's. Brands has stationed him at Brazoria where he is very much liked. Tomorrow Brands will have a meeting to form a Catholic Benevolent Society. Brands has promised to put the oldest boy of a widow with three children into a good mercantile house and he asks Blanc to find him a place in New Orleans. James P. Nash is highly pleased with his conduct. Blanc is to charge Sister St. Seraphine, Ray, R.U. with $13.87½ fpr taxes. Brands has notified Colonel Love to leave the house within a month so that when the Bishop comes he will not be retarded in locating the Ladies Ursulines . They have just received officially the news of the resolution for the admission of Texas into the Union; Blanc will see their president's Anson Jones proclamation enclosed in this letter. :: V-5-e A.L.S.
