While thanking them for their kindness, Anduze neither can nor should accept their offer. There duties which a priest cannot elude without violating the oath of his ordination and obedience is one of these. His superior having withdrawn his faculties, he cannot again use them without his consent. He has never sought public esteem except in following the rules of conduct of a priest and will never seek to keep that good opinion except by the same measure. Copy French
