Allen, Cha(rle)s Dexter: Hartford, Conn(ecticut) to Monsignor (Robert) Seton: (Jersey City Heights, New Jersey), 1893 October 30
Scope and Contents
He is happy Seton liked the book plates he sent and thanks him for the ones Seton sent him. He will take Seton's suggestion to call upon Professor (James F.) Edwards. Allen is also a member of the S(ons of the) A(merican) R(evolution) and had three or four ancestors who were active in the defense of their country. His wife had twenty relatives on the Northern side in the Civil War. It seemed Allen had a Seton plate but the only thing like it is a Laton plate of about 1740. (P.S.) Allen supposed the Cardinal's hat which Seton uses on his plate was only allowable for a Cardinal; he asks Seton to explain the exact menaing of this symbol in his Church.
