He received Seton's letter of the 19th and is pleased at his interest in his work on the subject of early book plates. As to what Mr. Hardy says in regard to the date of their plates, Allen does not find the statement Seton quotes. The old Seton plate by Maverick was probably dated about 1790. Maverick had a shop in New York around 1787; he was then about 32. If Seton will send a print for a description he will include it in his book.
