He just returned from the G.A.R. encampment at Buffalo. The boys looked well but showing age. Archbishop John Ireland was mustered in the G.A.R.; he made a most excellent impression and is teaching the people that a man can be a good Catholic and a patriotic citizen at the same time. He will ship the nine Gettysburg paintings and will be at Notre Dame to see some of them varnished and give an idea of what they are. They are painted by Frank D. Briscoe. They cost him $300 each but he will give the lot for $250 as he will never go on the road with them again. If desired he can give four illustrated lectures while he is there. :: XI-1-o A.L.S. 3pp.
