He sends a little item of interest for Bishops' Memorial Hall. Father L.B. Palladino S.J. who used to live with Brondel is the author of "Indian and White of History of Catholicity in Montana". :: XI-1-m A.L.S. 4pp. In December, 1881, Brondel brought to Rome the acts and decrees of the 2nd Provincial Synod of Oregon with a letter written by Archbishop (Charles John) Seghers, who wrote how indignant they felt at the desecration of the remains of the Pope's Predecessor. Nov. 28, 1886 Seghers was assassinated by his guide while travelling on the Yukon in Alaska. His remains were left freezing in an abandoned cabin. A few faithful savages brought the body to Nulato and it was buried in the ice at St. Michael's. At the order of President (Grover) Cleveland in 1888, Commander Emery, U.S.N. brought the body to Victoria where the men of the United States and British war vessels paid last honors to the missionary of the cross.
