Gilbert, Leon, New Orleans, Louisiana, to James F. Edwards, Notre Dame, Indiana, 1889 January 23
Scope and Contents
He takes advantage of a little spare time to tell Edwards what he is doing. After his father's death it was decided that he should continue the affairs, but he decided he was too young. His father's oldest clerk assumed the liabilities. Gilbert is cashier for the cotton-sugar firm of Maxwell, Peale and Allen. He hopes Edwards' trip to Europe will prove beneficial. Gilbert spent 18 months in Paris. He invited Edwards to visit him; he could hear his sister's voice, pronounced the most beautiful contralto voice ever heard for her age. He may bring his little brother to Notre Dame next year. :: XI-1-f A.L.S. 7pp. 12mo.
