He knew that Edwards had forgotten to party in South Bend, but he felt no uneasiness about it. It will be all right to hand in that little trifle when some business brings him to Notre Dame. Edwards' much too short visit caused him the most intense pleasure, felt more interiorly than was manifest exteriorly. Time and distance have not been able to diminish the deeply seated affection which Carrier has cherished for Edwards ever since he acted as his devoted little Sacristan.
