Scharf, J. Thomas, Baltimore, Maryland, to Richard Henry Clarke, New York, New York, 1886 March 20
Scope and Contents
Scharf thanks Clarke for a copy of the charter and by-laws of the N.Y. Catholic Historical Society . As soon as the legislature ajourns, Scharf intends to make an effort to establish a society similar to it in Baltimore. He is unable at the time to comply with Clarke's request for copies of the pastoral letters of the Archbishops of Baltimore and those issued by the Maryland Historical Society. About two years before, Scharf sold over 20,000 pamphlets to Lloyd P. Smith, the Librarian of Ridgeway Library, in Philadelphia. This sale cleaned Scharf out and he has collected few since. Scharf will send, if he can find them, one or two pastoral letters of the Archbishops of Baltimore and a publication of the Historical Society of Maryland. :: I-2-n T.L.S. 1p. 4to.
