Archbishop John Baptist Purcell of Cincinnati requests Spalding to notify Lefevere that he and all the suffragan bishops intend to meet at Lefevere's house on Wednesday, July 13, to consider the question of Spalding's successor, and perhaps of the Fenian Brotherhood, Spiritualism, etc. Spalding hopes Lefevere will be at home and will postpone other appointments as this is a most important meeting. This compliment to Lefevere, as the Senior Suffragan, was partly suggested by the Bishop of Covington George A. Carrell and Spalding and the Bishop of Vincennes Maurice de St. Palais.
