Spalding, Martin John, Bishop of, Louisville, Kentucky, to Bishop Peter Paul Lefevere, Detroit, Michigan, 1858 January 25
Scope and Contents
Spalding wrote today to Father Peter Kindekens Kindekins enclosing a copy of a letter written to the Association for the Propagation of the Faith in behalf of the American College at Louvain . He has written differently but urged the same reasons which Lefevere employs. He is more and more convinced that this college is destined to do much good and the fact that difficulties have interposed is an additional reason to believe it is the work of God. Spalding and Lefevere will meet at the approaching council in May. The suffragans are not all pleased with the Metropolitan John Baptist Purcell but he hopes things will go on with at least tolerable harmony. P.S. He has just returned from Memphis, where he assisted at the dedication of a new and beautiful church. Bishop Richard Pius Miles, O.P. was quite well. :: III-2-i A.L.S. 3pp. 12mo.
