Retained original order of documents which were contained in a single envelope labeled "Power of Attorney, "Amable House" Band (St. Ignace), incl. John B. Shomin sig." Documents include signed contracts (power of attorney) and lists of Ottawa and Chippewa bands, chiefs, headmen, and community members from the following towns in northern Michigan: Marquette, Grand Island, Thomasville, Point Iroquois, Tahquamenon, Sault Ste. Marie, Sugar Island, Drummond Island, Les Cheneaux, Pine River (St. Martin Bay), Rabbit Back (St. Martin Bay), St. Ignace, Manistique, Nahma (Delta County, Mich.), Barkville, Harbor Springs, Petoskey, Carpenter (post office, Emmet County), Charlevoix, Omena, Suttons Bay, Kewadin, Star City, Beal City, Vandecar, Whiteville, Fountain, Elbridge, Custer, Bradley, Sturgeon River, Grand River, Little Traverse, White Fish Lake, Snow Islands, Mackinac, Missaukee County, Hessel, Bay Mills, Cross Village, Bear Creek, Middle Village, Ford River, Pentwater, Hart, Pere Marquette (Le Roy), Alger County, Waishkey Bay, Nottawa, Susan Lake, and Peshawbestown. Some of the documents include demographic information about occupations, marriage status, and the number of children for bands and their member families.
