Scope and Contents

Includes material from department concerned with distribution and production of Grail books and art work including such items as posters, cards and statutes. The department was headed by Janet Kalven until the early 1970s.

Correspondence: A fairly complete series of diverse material covering correspondence with authors and artists producing works, with distributors selling the works and to manufacturers mass producing the work, also contained are some comments from "Readers" reviewing such works as 12 Days of Christmas and Elizabeth Reid's, I Belong Where I'm Needed.

Financial Records: The series is comprised mainly of check registers, although one folder contains scattered reports (annual, quarterly and monthly) on different aspects of the program.

Reports: Written reports of different aspects of operation, in terms of technological aspects, production of artists and problems with distribution and mass production.

Legal Contracts: Most material represented is contracts between distributors and Grail, but also some rights to publish, copyright and transfer of copyright material.

Agendas: Scattered agendas and points of discussion for irregular meetings held about program.

Minutes: Scattered minutes and summaries of meetings held irregularly about problems in program.

Cards: Card designs for different feasts (Easter, Christmas, etc.) and occasions; also phoenix cards, variations of one theme, the phoenix arising from the flames, including some original rough drafts.

Catalogue: Different catalogues, produced by Grail, illustrating Grail material for sale. The 1972 catalogue is the "Christian family Catalogue" which is not Grail related but features Grail items. Also included are the rough drafts of catalogues as designed by Grail artists.

Publicity Files: Files on two better known Grail artists, artist Trina Paulus and writer Elizabeth Reid. Primarily a biography and listing of past awards.

Designs: Two folders of different prayers, primarily meal time, at different times throughout the church year, contained in decorative folders. Also one item of vestment design with cloth swatch.
